VI Belarussian-Finland economic forum. From May 30 to June 1, 2018


From May 30 to June 1, 2018, the Minsk Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly with the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Finland organized a business visit of Belarusian enterprises to Savonlinna (Finland).


On May 31, 2018 the VI Belarusian-Finnish Economic Forum was held.


The official Belarusian delegation headed by Yu.Chebotar, Deputy Minister of Economy, included R.Sobolev, the director of the department of Foreign Economic Activity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, A. Ostrovsky, Ambassador of Belarus to Finland, the management of the National Agency of Investment and Privatization, the Nesvizh District Executive Committee, the Concern "Bellesbumprom",the Great Stone industrial park, the Minsk Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Republican Entrepreneurship Conference, the Republican Union of Tourism Industry.


The business community of Belarus was represented by managers and employees of more than 10 enterprises and organizations, including "Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange", "Belarusian Steel Works", "Torgmash", "Mogilev Steel Works", "Mogotex", "Orsha Linen Mill", "Agrokombinat Snov", "Rechitsadrev", "Energopro", "Industrial Park Development Company".


The Finnish delegation was headed by M. Keynanen, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland (in the rank of Deputy Minister). It comprised K.Mielson, the Ambassador of Finland to Lithuania and Belarus, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, the leadership of the Savonlinna City Administration and the regional Chamber of Commerce, as well as a number of regional business structures, public Finnish-Belarusian business associations, representatives of more than 40 companies.


During the plenary session the presentation of priority directions of economic development of Belarus and Finland was held, where the opportunities to increase bilateral cooperation in the investment sphere were discussed.


In addition, four sectional meetings were organized, during which the participants considered the issues of interaction in the spheres of forestry and woodworking (on the basis of "UPM" Company); mechanical engineering and biotechnology (based on Andritz Company); energy saving, "green economy" and innovations, as well as realization of tourist potential of both countries.


The bilateral meetings between representatives of business circles of Belarus and Finland were held.


During the talks, Yu Chebotar, R. Sobolev and M.Keynianen exchanged views on the pressing issues of trade and economic cooperation between countries. The subjects of relations with the European Union and Belarus' participation in the EEU, as well as the progress of our country's accession to the WTO were discussed.


Several meetings were held between G. Solovei, the chairman of the Nesvizh district executive committee and J.Laine, the mayor of the city of Savonlinna (reference: in 2016, an agreement on cooperation between the regions was signed), T.Dubova, Deputy General Director for Foreign Economic Activity of the Minsk Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and T. Leinonen, the director for the international activities of the Chamber of Commerce of the province of South Savo . The directions of strengthening the bilateral cooperation were considered.
